They’re called “cocheros” – riders in Spanish – because they go with their horses to cut trees for firewood to sell so they can feed their families. The cutting of trees has environmental consequences that stretch beyond Choluteca, Honduras, and affect the whole planet, but it’s the only means of survival in a community where many don’t even have a home and live under tarps. This series tells their story, and how Tzu Chi stepped in to help.
