Though resources for prisoners seeking Buddhist teachings may be scarce, support once they are released may be even less; worse, they may fall back into old patterns and return to prison. See the work of Reverend Karlene Kalen McAllister, a former Buddhist chaplain whose work in the correctional system- and bodhisattva thinking- inspired her to reach out to ex-offenders and offer them opportunity in the Tzu Chi USA documentary, “Second Chances.”
