Uniting to Serve Together in Irvine, California

After being held for the first time in 2022, Tzu Chi Young Leaders’ Annual Community Weekend was back in full force with service projects that took place over April 8-9. In Irvine, CA, in particular, a group of Tzu Chi’s youth volunteers, part of Young Leaders, volunteered their time to harvest fresh produce at a local farm through the Second Harvest Local Food Bank.

One of the volunteers, Jason Lin, explained the novelty of this event: “a lot of other community services you’re dealing with, [they] rarely collect the product or harvest the products. So, this event I find is unique.” He went on to say that the act of harvesting provides a “very direct connection to food and bringing it to the communities in need.”

Another young volunteer, Anthony Rodriguez, added that “when I volunteer I feel good inside. And I feel like I accomplished something. So, helping other people helps me also to become a better person.”
