For our world to change, we must address the problems of our current systems, whether it relates to education, social welfare, and so much more.
This was a huge topic that was tackled at the NGO-CSW parallel event called “How Strengthening Systems Unlocks Potential to Achieve Gender Equality,” hosted by Tzu Chi USA and co-sponsored by UNICEF & Zonta International on March 13, 2024.
From the Church Center for the United Nations, panelists like Natalia Winder Rossi, the Director of Social Policy & Social Protection at UNICEF, broke these concepts down into digestible terms: “‘Systems Strengthening,’ which is this word that it seems that it doesn’t mean anything, but basically we were trying to make a point [which] is that it’s critical to bring together different sectors working towards gender equality.”
On the other hand, Branda Huang of the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, illuminated the way that Tzu Chi is achieving this mission:
“From Tzu Chi’s point of view, in order to strengthen the system, we need to start and begin from faith values. By having the correct values from the start, I think we can empower the women, and also the men and the children, to make the correct decisions in their life.”
