Women’s Empowerment Across Generations

In order for women’s empowerment to be effective, women and girls must do one important thing: understand the unique struggles they face at different phases of life.

At a CSW68 NGO-CSW parallel event, co-hosted by the Loretto Community at the Tzu Chi Center in New York City, Tzu Chi delegate to the UN Heather Chen is learning all about the importance of storytelling as a tool to bridge inter-generational gaps.

Panelist Jourdan Hicks (from Herbert Way Co. Consultancy) explains that “Storytelling is a part of survival; it gives us an opportunity to say, ‘This existed, this is important, and this can be relevant to you.’ So we have to maintain history, we have to maintain the integrity of information and truth.”

Fellow panelist Hailey Garcia, a Loretto Community Delegate at CSW, agrees that its the most effective way to understand women younger and older: “Storytelling is the way… we learn from others.”
