Championing the youth of today taking charge as the leaders of the future was the 9th Edition of the International Youth Conference (IYC9). As the event took place on 5/30 – 6/2/2024, preceding IYC9 on 5/29, Tzu Chi USA teamed with the IYC to host a Community Volunteer Day that began at our National Headquarters in San Dimas, CA and ended in Manhattan Beach, CA!
Exemplifying a commitment to action together, youth delegates of IYC and Tzu Chi volunteers shared in the alignment of Tzu Chi’s missions and UN SDGs before participating in service acts that reflected the knowledge for building a community. Through community gardening, building charity hygiene kits, and learning the basic steps of composting, IYC delegates found how service helps the connection with each other and the community around us.
The volunteer work continued after the trip to Tzu Chi National Headquarters and concluded at Manhattan Beach, where IYC youth delegates assisted in a coastline restoration. Their spirited efforts had two months of planned work completed in only a few hours for the Manhattan Beach Dune Restoration Project collaboration!
During IYC9, founded and led by Ali Mustafa, 8,000 participants were brought together globally, both in person and online, of which Tzu Chi USA was a proud partner.
