To help shed light on the teachings of Tzu Chi’s founder, Dharma Master Cheng Yen, a group of Dharma Masters traveled in from the Jing Si Abode in Hualien to attend the 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago, IL. They participated in various portions of the interfaith conference, including hosting a Buddha Bathing Ceremony, as panelists at parallel sessions, and to read a children’s book at Tzu Chi’s Children’s Booth.

Of the first component, the Ceremony, Dharma Master De Cheng explained that they held such a Ceremony to include attendees of the Parliament in order to “show different kinds of religions love… and our solidarity.” For some, learning about the Ceremony and being able to shower the Buddha with gratitude, blessings, and respect in this way, it was an emotional experience.

“I felt disconnected today,” noted David Faber of the Indigenous Task Force, adding that “this grounded and really touched my heart… it’s exactly what I needed to remember; the point of being here and helping everyone in whatever way we can around the world.”

*Also featuring Ven. Dharma Master De Huang, Desiree English (Gender Equity & Reconciliation International), and Ayya Dhammadipa (Buddhist Global Relief).
