Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted from its summit on Thursday, May 17, 2018, spewing ash and lava across the island and thousands of feet into the sky. The current eruption could become the longest in the volcano’s recorded history. Opened fissures have caused lasting damage to homes and lives for weeks on end. At least 712 homes have already been destroyed and thousands of residents forced to evacuate since the beginning of the eruption. The Hawaiian Island of Kauai has also experienced massive flooding and multiple landslides.
