Fissure One first opened when Kilauea erupted, and many more ensued not soon after. Residents Kris and Heidi were forced to flee their home and evacuate to safety when these fissures opened up. While the fissure openings have ceased, the calamitous effects of the eruption continue to impact communities at large. Despite this, affected residents Kris and Heidi found hope and the strength to start anew with the support given by Tzu Chi’s disaster relief efforts.
