Joanne Lavis recalls the events that led to her being evacuated from her home in Ventura County, California.
“I was living in an RV park with my daughter, she has autism. It started raining really bad, a branch from a tree hit the top of our RV and water started pouring in everywhere,” she described; “Right now I’m homeless. I’m staying with family and [in] hotels. Just very difficult, I’ve never been in this situation before.”
But, after attending an emergency relief distribution by Tzu Chi Northwest in February, Joanne received a warm eco-blanket to bring home, as well as an emergency cash card to use toward her and her daughter’s most pressing needs. “I really appreciate you guys stepping in and helping,” she says, “it really means a lot.”
