Offering Help Without Delay
Series: Healing LA From The WildfiresFind the lead-up to our West LA Service Center’s wildfire distribution on January 22, with preparations made by our volunteers Flora Yeh and Martin Kuo and on-the-ground insight from Clayton Holt, engineer and paramedic for the El Segundo Fire Department.
Families from the Pacific Palisades attended the distribution, and thanks to Flora and Martin’s organizing, the event was able to ensure that their needs were sufficiently cared for. These residents have found their area hit hard by the fires, as confirmed by Clayton, a Los Angeles native, upon his regular surveys of the Palisades: “When people are coming to look through their stuff… It’s a pretty daunting task. There’s not really much that is salvageable.”
Flora has also lost her home in the Palisades, yet her courage to keep going is enabled through helping others with her volunteer work. Having the swift distribution gave a chance for those impacted to regain the hope to rebuild as they were provided food, DA.AI eco-friendly blankets, and cash cards.
“Every three to four days, we’re going to have a service like this. So we hope we can help them to put their feet on the ground again. That’s why we do it,” emphasized Martin.
