Families in Arcadia, Florida, Come to Terms With Hurricane Ian Losses

Disaster Relief

With widespread damage done to many communities in Florida after Hurricane Ian, municipal resources are strapped, leaving many residents to fend for themselves. Marisol Balderas, an Arcadia Resident, showed us her home, where the roof was ripped off by the storm. Yet, she and her family were still living there, even days later. “There’s not a lot of places for people to stay,” she explains.

Gloria Padilla, Community Relations Manager of the RCMA Arcadia Child Development Center, believes that emergency cash cards from Tzu Chi USA will help buffer the small things so families can focus on the bigger ones:

“a lot of families might not have this opportunity, to be able to purchase these items. And something that’s this little, could be so much, and we have families that have diabetes, that have high blood pressure, that have… issues that might not ever get addressed. It is up to us and it is up to you to help our families, our community because they are in dire need.”
