Disaster Relief

On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall off the coast of Florida as a category 4 storm. It left coastal areas like Fort Myers completely wrecked, and at the same time, brought heavy rains inland toward Central Florida.

As Gloria Padilla, Community Relations Manager of the RCMA Arcadia Child Development Center, describes, “our families were not prepared. And then if you see the families and [where] they live in, they live in trailers, mobile homes. They cannot withstand more than a 65, 70 wind.”

To help residents get as much support after the Hurricane as possible, Tzu Chi volunteers quickly got to work and began distributing cash cards, loaded with emergency funds for impacted households to dedicate toward their most pressing needs.

Meet some of the residents we helped, the partnerships we made, and how putting compassion into action makes all the difference in a time of crisis in our latest video. Plus, support our long-term recovery efforts at donate.tzuchi.us/houston.
