Refuge From the Camp Fire in Chico
Series: Hope Heals: Lift the Hearts of 10,000 FamiliesCalifornia’s most recent blaze, The Camp Fire, burned over 150,000 acres of land, destroyed over 13,000 residences and has gone on record to be the worst inferno in California’s history. This disaster left evacuees in dire need of relief. FEMA and Tzu Chi set up relief stations just outside the disaster areas in Chico, California “We’re opening up the center to have people that have been affected by the Camp Fire to register with FEMA and also with the State an Butte County and from there we can start the initial process to try and give them assistance.” explains Jovanna Garcia of FEMA. Most residents lost all their worldly possessions and are survived with just the clothes on their backs. While the lines may be long the road to recovery may be even longer.
