Hurricane Maria: Yomayra Ortiz Personal Story

Disaster Relief

When the wind blew the roof and doors off of Yomayra Ortiz’s home during Hurricane Maria, she and her family had to leave in a panic. Ortiz worked day and night for $5 an hour, caring for the elderly, trying to provide for her family and rebuilding their home. One year later, because of Tzu Chi’s generous cash card donation, Ortiz is finally able to buy materials to rebuild. Her daughter explains, “My mom is a fighter, always worked to give us everything. I always have her as an example. One thing I would like to [do is] give back for everything she has done for me.” Giving back to those in need is the main mission of Tzu Chi. Please join us.
