For some who experience sudden loss through disaster, receiving or asking for support can be difficult. Nicole Estrada, who lost her whole home through the Caldor Fire this summer, explained, “we’re in an awkward situation to explain our loss of everything that we’ve loved in our home.”
She then met Tzu Chi Northwest volunteers this September at an emergency financial aid distribution at the Local Assistance Center in Placerville, CA. Graciously accepting the cash card we gave her, Nicole tearfully told us, “thank you for opening your hearts for people like us. We feel love and compassion and hope from your organization. It’s not easy to receive, but we will survive.”
