Love That’s Real
Series: Healing LA From The WildfiresOn 1/30, Altadena residents gathered at our relief distribution in El Monte, each with their own stories in their recovery from the losses caused by the Eaton Fire.
“Everybody knew everyone,” said Wylda Faye, who lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years. Claire Dorotheo, who recently moved in, mentioned, “I was wanting to grow old there. That’s what makes me really sad.” Norman Merino shared a heroic story of rescuing a woman during the fire. “We got her, put her in the truck… As we’re doing that, every few seconds, you hear an explosion.”
Amid the hardships, hope shines through in the bonds being formed by the community. “There are good people here that want to help… that’s real. Love is real,” Claire expressed. To assist in their long-term recovery, residents at the distribution found emergency financial aid, groceries, and essential supplies.
