Disaster Relief

At a wildfire relief distribution hosted over Labor Day weekend in Hawaii, Maui resident Rowena Baraoidan reminisced about her family home. With her grandchildren beside her, she recalled that “our son was two years old when we moved in, so we’ve been in the house for thirty-plus years.”

Her story is one of many families who’ve lost their homes to recent wildfires on Maui, which have burned down the entire town of Lahaina. “We’re probably in the same boat as everybody else,” Rowena admits, “needing help during this difficult time.”

But, despite having never been in such a desolate position, and recognizing the difficult road ahead, she says, “all the help you can get, we will receive gladly and with open arms.”

See her story and that of other wildfire survivors in our latest video and make a contribution to our fundraiser*, donate.tzuchi.us/mauirelief.

*BONUS: when you make a donation until Sept 30, 2023, your gift will be matched, dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million. Use the link above and give today.
