Once upon a time, tourists loved the beaches here, but today they’re empty because Canoa is a pile of rubble after the earthquake with no hotels left to welcome anyone. But local residents were just waiting for an opportunity to do something about it, and now thanks to Tzu Chi’s Cash For Relief program, they are prioritizing the clean-up in hotels and hostels, knowing their efforts will pave the way for a revival of the local economy.
