A five-alarm fire ripped through an apartment building in Elmhurst, Queens on April 11, causing extensive damage and displacing many. Within days, volunteers from Tzu Chi New York organized a disaster relief distribution to help those affected, providing $17,000 in aid of direct benefit to 54 residents. Recipients were filled with gratitude, taken aback that people they did not even know were offering help and moral support.
