Steve Chiu: Slowing Down (Sort of) at the 2023 PoWR

Shortly after landing in Chicago, IL to attend the 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions (PoWR), Tzu Chi USA’s Steve Chiu was in for a big surprise. “immediately upon exiting the hotel, I tripped, fell, and then I hurt my leg.”
Ten hours in an ER, two crutches, and one motorized scooter later, Steve was back on track (sort of). He jumped in right away to resume his duties as both panelist and moderator at various parallel events at the PoWR, including those on building better health systems and takeaways from the UNFCCC’s COP27 & what to expect for COP28.
Above all, Steve is adamant about seeing the upside of things: “Life was giving me a signal that I need to slow down a bit. But in the next couple of days, I’m really excited to explore how we as an interfaith movement can create a better world and ensure that the values of Buddhism are present in all societies.”
