Every May, Buddhists celebrate a holiday known as Buddha Day, or Vesak Day. It commemorates the birth, the enlightenment, and the death of Siddhartha Gautama, better known as the Buddha. This year, for Tzu Chi Las Vegas volunteers in Nevada, Buddha Day marked another special occasion: the grand opening of a new vision mobile clinic from Tzu Chi Medical.

It’s the latest addition to the fleet of mobile health units, and this one is equipped with everything needed for beginning-to-end vision services. These include vision screenings, eye exams, as well as stylish frames and prescription lenses to create custom glasses for patients in same-day service. The best part: these services will all be free.

For Ophthalmologist Dr. Karen Hsueh, the vision mobile clinic is a game-changer in Clark County: “we’re going to tremendously help out our community. I think it can really change their lives.”

See how the grand opening ceremony (combined with Buddha Day festivities) all went down in our latest video.
