From November 30 to December 12, 2023, COP28 brought together participants from every corner of the planet to discuss one main thing: what they could each do to help prevent the Earth from getting hotter. And it all happened at Expo City in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates .
Knowing the impacts of cliamte change from countless disaster relief missions worldwide, Tzu Chi’s delegation remained steadfast in their commitment to environmental protection, rooted deeply in Buddhist values and the teaching of Dharma Master Cheng Yen.
It is with this deep faith that Tzu Chi USA CEO Debra Boudreaux believes that “Tzu Chi needs to be in this kind of space; the space for providing positive and faith-based directions” to address the problem we all see in the room.
For Tiffany Tu, Project Specialist of Youth Development at Tzu Chi’s GPAD, convenings like COP28 are an important way to build and grow partnerships that achieve solutions:
“All these partnerships that we have formed now, it’s not going to disappear anytime soon, right? It’s going to continue and from there, we can build better and a brighter future.”
Reflecting on the Tzu Chi delegation’s overall feeling towards COP28’s end, Tiffany sums it up: “what I will think about going away from this COP is how much hope there is in this world, and how much that we can do.”
