Our Climate

Hailing from countries around the world, Tzu Chi’s diverse delegation to the UNFCCC’s COP28 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates is united in a common goal: to bring Tzu Chi’s values for environmental protection into the international arena—and see it achieve results.

Speaking at a side event, Jia Luen Goh, Tzu Chi UK’s Youth Representative to the UN, explained that his presentation “was based on [Master Cheng Yen’s] teaching for us; sincerity, integrity, faithfulness, and steadfastness. So these are the guiding principles in all the missions that we’re doing globally.”

For Natalie Wright, Tzu Chi USA’s Youth Representative to the UN, acting as an ambassador for Tzu Chi was just one thing; being able to meet her counterparts from the other side of the planet was another: “it was really cool to meet other people from Tzu Chi in person. We do a lot of collaborative work internationally and so a lot of it’s on Zoom and crazy hours, but in person it’s so different.”

Jiyu Chen, Tzu Chi Australia’s Youth Representative to the UN, says that ultimately, there’s an even greater gift that opportunities like these can provide: “I’m really privileged to have this opportunity to bring back to my local Tzu Chi chapter, to encourage my students to pursue what they want in terms of climate actions, and to think about what they can do to be part of the community.”
