Sonny Le arrived in San Francisco 35 years ago. It’s a miracle he survived the journey, as one of the famed “boat people” who fled during the Vietnam war and an unknown number perished at sea. Zaw Phan escaped from Burma during the Saffron Revolution, because his involvement in protests put his life at risk. Both Sonny and Zaw have to make it in America now, because as in the case of all refugees, there’s no going back.
