On May 19, LA County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, a long-time friend of Tzu Chi USA, hosted a special reception in honor of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (or AAPI) Heritage Month.
At this annual event, Tzu Chi had the great honor to receive an award for Outstanding Community Service. We extend our humble thanks and appreciation to Supervisor Solis for the recognition.
Of gathering with local organizations from across the AAPI community there, Dr. Lisa Wong, the Director of the LA County Department of Mental Health, emphasized a greater purpose, “[with] all of the race-based hate crimes, the anti-AAPI sentiment that’s out there, it’s very important for all of us to be together, highlight those things that we’re accomplishing, but also [highlight] the needs that we have in our community.”
