Care After Fires in San Francisco
San Francisco, a city with wooden buildings over 100 years old, often sees fire-related disasters involving faulty electrical wiring. This July, one such fire ripped through apartments, leaving many in need of aid, particularly undocumented and low-income families.
We distributed aid for those affected, including cash cards, eco-friendly blankets, and other necessities. Care recipient Susana Signio thanked us from the bottom of her heart, saying, “It’s a big help that you gave to us.”
Tzu Chi volunteer Luke Leung explained Tzu Chi’s philosophy of care, which aims to begin a cycle of never-ending love: “If you’re going through hardship now, open your palms upward and receive help. We hope that one day, you can become self-sufficient and with your palms down to help more people.”
