The Wu Family’s Selflessness
The Wu family has participated in Tzu Chi volunteer work for three generations. At 84 years old, Fu Mei Wu has been a Tzu Chi volunteer for 29 years. Her secret to staying young? “You feel happy when helping others. The more I do it, the happier and younger I feel.” Both her daughter, Nancy Wu, and granddaughter, Shiulina Wu, have followed in her footsteps, providing volunteer work with Tzu Chi.
The selflessness provided by the Wu Family extended to the Wellness and Resilience event on March 1, 2025, where they served former care recipients from the Lahaina Wildfire in 2023. Through haircuts, massages, acupuncture, counseling, blood-pressure checks, children’s activities, and spiritual care, Lahaina residents could experience newfound happiness and joy. “Everybody there had a smile on their face. So, it’s just cool to see the community come together,” said Shiulina in reflection.
